Women's Hoops Late Rally Falls Short At Montana State 82-74

Bozeman, MT - The UC Riverside women's basketball team outscored Montana State in the second half during a late rally that saw them get within three points down the stretch, but the Bobcats were able to hold on for the 82-74 win over the visiting Highlanders at Worthington Arena on Sunday evening.
The Highlanders found themselves down 53-36 just two and a half minutes into the second half, but rallied for a 17-6 run to get within six, 59-53, on a Tre'Shonti Nottingham three-point play with 9:33 remaining.
UC Riverside kept cutting at MSU's lead as they then got it down to three, 65-62, off a Rheya Neabors layup with just over five minutes to go. The Bobcats, however, staved off the late Highlander run as they held on down the stretch for the 82-74 win.
Junior Alyssa Morris (pictured) led all players with 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting, while Rhaya Neabors added 18 points and Rheya Neabors had 11. Five MSU players scored in double-figures led by Beata Bak's 19 points.
In the first half, the Bobcats put on a three-point field goal clinic early on, hitting four of their first seven long balls within the first eight minutes of play en route to 66.7 percent (6-of-9) shooting from beyond the arc in the first period.
The Highlanders were down between five to nine points in the half until MSU opened up a 10-point lead at the 6:23 mark. UCR then rattled off five unanswered points within the next minute to cut the lead to five, 32-27, but Montana State then went on a 13-5 run to close out the half as they entered the break with a 45-32 advantage.
The 45 points scored by MSU in the first half is the most points allowed in the first half by an opponent since Oklahoma scored 48 on Nov. 15, 2008.
For the game, UCR out shot Montana State 52.0 percent to 49.2 percent, but MSU hit almost half of their three-point shots while the Highlanders hit just 30.0 percent. The Bobcats also out rebounded UCR 35-24.
The Highlanders continue their road trip with a 6:00 pm PST game against Montana on Tuesday, Dec. 29 in Missoula, MT.
