UC Riverside vs. San Diego Game Notes
After opening the 2009-10 season in two of the least hospitable arenas in the nation, The Pit in New Mexico and The Galen Center at USC, the Highlanders have ripped off four straight wins, none more impressive than their 40-point victory over CSU Bakersfield on Wednesday evening. Kyle Austin (pictured) led UCR with 19 points in the win. Listen to tha game as the Voice of the Highlanders, John Ramey, brings you the action from courtside.
The four consecutive wins ties the longest such streak in the Division I history of the program, originally set early in the 2008-09 campaign. UC Riverside’s 4-2 mark to open the season also ties a Division I benchmark originally established by last year’s squad.
Next up for the Highlanders is a Friday evening meeting with the San Diego Toreros. These teams last met on January 10, 2007 with San Diego taking a 78-62 win at Jenny Craig Pavilion. It was the sixth straight win in the series for the Toreros.
San Diego is coming off of a 69-62 overtime home loss to crosstown rival San Diego State. Brandon Johnson, who leads the Toreros in scoring averaging 16.5 points, led San Diego with 21 points in the loss.
