Softball Falls 6-1 to No. 4 Michigan and 6-0 to Indiana in Seminole Classic

Tallahassee, FL - Facing their third top-25 ranked opponent of this young season, the UC Riverside softball team (2-7) dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 4 Michigan on Saturday in the first game of the Seminole Classic, and fell 6-0 to Indiana in the second game of the tournament at JoAnne Graf Field on the campus of Florida State University.
Against the Wolverines in the first game, Michigan (10-2) got on board first as they scored three runs on three hits and one Highlander error in the top of the third inning. UCR responded in their respective half inning as Marissa Alvidrez (Bakersfield, CA) doubled to left field plating Tiana Towns (Perris, CA) from first, closing the gap to 3-1.
The Highlanders, though, could not get any more runs across the plate as the Wolverines scored an additional run in the fifth and two insurance runs in the seventh to claim the victory. Alvidrez took the loss for the Highlanders pitching all seven innings but allowing six runs on nine hits.
In the second game against Indiana (1-7), UC Riverside had eight hits but could not convert them to runs as the Hoosiers scored one run in the third inning and five runs in the fourth inning. Stephanie Marshall (Concord, CA) pitched six innings for the Highlanders and picked up the loss. Towns led UCR with three hits while Kameryn Hebenton (Beaumont, CA) and Jojo Mendoza (San Jose, CA) each added two hits.
UC Riverside concludes the Seminole Classic with two more games on Sunday, Feb. 22 as they face off against East Carolina at 10:30 am and host Florida State at 12:35 pm.
