Women's Tennis Loses Close 4-3 Match to Illinois State

Las Vegas, NV - After picking up a win yesterday afternoon against Utah State, the UC Riverside women's tennis team looked to make it two in a row in Sin City, but fell 4-3 in a gritty match against Illinois State on Saturday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas.
In doubles play the duo of Erynne Oki (Valley Village, CA) and Angelique Corpuz (Chula Vista, CA) defeated their opponents 8-2 at the No. 1 spot, but the Highlanders (3-3) fell in the other two positions. Needing to win four of the six singles matches to claim a victory, Oki won 6-1, 6-1 at the top spot, followed by a strong 6-1, 6-3 win for Nadia Sakhakorn (Saugus, CA) at the No. 3 position.
Losses by Yasaman Sakhakorn (Saugus, CA) and Roxanne Plata (Granada Hills, CA) at the fourth and sixth singles spots then gave Illinois State a 3-2 advantage. The last two matches by Corpuz and Donna McCullough (Fremont, CA) each went 7-6 in the third set, but UCR could only pull out one win, falling in the other.
The Highlanders remain in Las Vegas for a matchup against host UNLV on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 10:00 am.
