Highlanders Men's Tennis Defeats Gonzaga 4-3

Riverside, CA - Led by the second consecutive singles win for freshman Felix Macherez at the top spot, the UC Riverside men's tennis team snapped a nine-match skid by defeating Gonzaga 4-3 in a non-conference match up at the SRC Tennis Complex on Thursday.
Playing the singles matches first, the Highlanders (4-11) and Bulldogs each won three. Macherez defeated Stefan Feddersen 6-2, 7-5 at the No. 1 spot, while Austin Andres came back from a first set loss to pick up the 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory at the fourth position. Michael Conroy got his first dual win of the season as he defeated Zach Peach 6-2, 6-4 to round out the UCR squad.
In doubles play, the duo of Yi Chai and John Park won 8-3 at the one position, followed by a 8-4 victory for Macherez and Conroy, which secured the Highlander doubles point and the match, giving UCR the 4-3 win.
The Highlanders return to action on Saturday, March 14 in a 1:00 pm non-conference match with Portland at the SRC Tennix Complex.
