Philadelphia, PA - The UC Riverside men's tennis team traveled to the East Coast on Tuesday for the first of a three-match swing against Penn, Temple, and Villanova, but dropped their first contest 6-1 at Penn.
UCR (4-13) got off to a good start, winning the doubles point by taking two of three matches. The duo of Quoc Doan and Felix Macherez defeated Hicham Laalej and Adam Schwartz at the top doubles spot for the first win, while Michael Conroy and Raineir Matias defeated Jason Lin and Alex Vasin at the third spot to capture the doubles point.
However, that was all the wins the Highlanders could produce as Penn went on to win each singles match to secure the 6-1 victory. Both Macherez and John Park were close to pushing their matches to the third set, but both were defeated in a tiebreaker second set.
The Highlanders conclude their East Coast swing with a match against Temple on Friday, March 27 and a match at Villanova on Saturday, March 28.
