Cal State Fullerton 4, UC Riverside 0 - Box Score
UC Riverside had its sites set on its first-ever conference series win over visiting Cal State Fullerton Sunday afternoon at Amy S. Harrison Field, but the Highlanders bats fell silent in a 4-0 loss to the Titans.
Stephanie Marshall, who picked up the win in relief in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader, got the start for UC Riverside, and she and her counterpart, Titans starter Ari Cervantes, traded zeroes on the scoreboard for the first innings of play. The Titans managed one hit over that span while the Highlanders picked up two.
Marshall's scoreless innings streak came to an end at eight and one-third when the Titans' Trina Harrison singled up the middle with two gone in the fourth bringing home pinch runner Adriana Martinez from second base. Courtney Martinez followed with an RBI single to right scoring Harrison, and Samanata Dollarhide made it 3-0 Cal State Fullerton with an RBI double to left. The Highlanders tried to counter in the bottom of the fourth, but they had two runners caught stealing in the frame.
The Titans picked up an insurance run In the top of the 6th when a Harrison sac fly scored pinch runner Katie Baldwin for the eventual 4-0 margin of victory.
Marshall took the loss for the Highlanders giving up seven hits and four runs in six innings. Marissa Alvidrez pitched a scoreless seventh for UCR. Cervantes earned the win - her 11th of the season against nine defeats - with a complete-game five hit shutout. Krystal Marquez and Brittany Keeney each had two hits on the day for the Highlanders.
