#21 Cal Poly 11, UC Riverside 1 - Box Score
Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside softball team celebrated Senior Day prior to their season-ending tilt with No. 21 ranked Cal Poly on Saturday morning at Amy S. Harrison Field, but the Mustangs (39-10, 18-3) completed their sweep of the series with an 11-1 victory in six innings.
The Highlanders lost three straight to a conference opponent for just the second time all season, and conclude the year with a 18-32 record, 7-14 in Big West play.
Even with their season-ending loss, the 2009 softball team set a UCR Division I record for most conference wins during a season with seven, and tied a record by winning two Big West Conference series. The Highlanders finished sixth in the Big West, their best-ever finish in conference since making the transition to Division I.
Cal Poly, who clinched the Big West Conference Championship with Saturday's win, limited UCR to just one run on four hits. The Highlanders' lone run came off a Marissa Alvidrez solo home run to left field, her team-leading sixth of the season, which knotted the score at one apiece after two innings of play.
The Mustangs then rattled off two runs in the third, four in the fourth, and four in the sixth inning as UCR sent three different pitchers to the circle to try and combat Cal Poly's hot bats. Due to the eight-run mercy rule, the game ended after UCR's turn at bat in the sixth.
Prior to first pitch, the Highlanders celebrated the accomplishments of their six graduating seniors: Amanda Klimczak, Quinn Redman, Katie Curtis, Patricia Adgar, Krystal Marquez, and Stephanie Marshall.
