San Juan, Puerto Rico—UC Riverside defender Tyler Wilson will rejoin the Puerto Rico National Team this week for two matches in Grenada beginning with an October 22 match against Guadaloupe. Following an October 24 meeting with host Grenada, Wilson will return to the Inland Empire as the Highlanders square off at home against UC Irvine on Wednesday, October 27.
The Puerto Rico National Team won Group A of the Digicel Caribbean Cup, which is the Caribbean Qualifiers for the CONCACAF Gold Cup next summer, and qualified to Group E. This group is made up of Puerto Rico, St. Kitts and Nevis, Grenada (participant in Gold Cup 2009), and Guadeloupe (reached quarterfinals Gold Cup 2009).
Wilson played with the Puerto Rico U21 National Team this summer in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, and was named to the Puerto Rico Men's National Team roster back in September. He joined the team in late September/early October for training camp at the new Bayamon Soccer Complex in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
The camp served as the preparatory training for the team's most important competition of the year, the Digicel Caribbean Cup, which is the Caribbean Qualifiers for the CONCACF Gold Cup next summer. The team trained for five days before playing matches against Anguilla, St. Martin and the Cayman Islands.
