Dallas, TX—The UC Riverside Men’s Basketball Team is in Dallas, Texas this weekend for a three-day, three-game tournament hosted by SMU. The Highlanders fell to Lamar, 90-75, on Friday afternoon, and they try to tame the host Mustangs on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 3:30 pm PT. Portland State is the opponent in the final game of the tournament for UCR on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 2:30 pm. Fans can listen to all the action as the Voice of the Highladners, John Ramey, brings the call from courtside to gohighlanders.com.
It is the first in-season tournament for the Highlanders during the Jim Wooldridge era, and just the second for the team since UCR made the transition to Division I 10 seasons ago.
The last time UCR played in a tournament such as this which requires teams to play on three consecutive days was at the beginning of the 2006-07 season. The Iowa State Cyclones hosted the event which saw the Highlanders lose 69-61 to Iowa State on November 10, upend Eastern Illinois on November 11 by a 64-55 score, and drop a 76-64 decision to Louisiana Monroe on November 12.This will be the first game between UC Riverside and SMU, while the Highlanders and Portland State Vikings split their two previous meetings from the 1970s.
