Las Vegas—The 2010-11 Men's Basketball Season is upon us, and the Highlanders (0-0) open the year by traveling to one of the most difficult places on the planet for visiting teams as they take on UNLV (0-0) at the Thomas & Mack Center on Friday, November 12 at 7:30 pm. Fans who are unable to attend the game can listen to the Voice of the Highlanders, John Ramey, call the game from courtsude online via Stretch Internet's GameCentral or on the radio at KPRO AM 1570. Fans can also follow the game via UNLV's GameTracker.
The Highlanders hosted Cal State Los Angeles on November 1 in their lone preseason game of the year defeating the Golden Eagles by an 86-72 score at the Student Recreation Center. Javon Borum, who missed the entire 2009-10 campaign with an Achilles injury, paced the team with 17 points while Phil Martin just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds, and Andy Saharan chipped in with 12 points.
The Runnin' Rebels played two exhibition games this season beating Grand Canyon, 90-66, and Washburn, 88-53. They are coming off a 2009-10 season that saw them post a 25-9 mark and advance to the NCAA Tournament. UNLV boasts a .833 winning percentage all-time at the Thomas & Mack Center.
UC Riverside and UNLV squared off against one another twice a year from 1960 through 1965 with the Rebels winning 11 of the 12 meetings. The last game between the clubs was on February 13, 1965 and resulted in a 93-64 UCR defeat. UNLV was a member of the Big West Conference from 1982-96 winning the 1990 NCAA Division I National Championship during that time.
