Pepperdine Comes From Behind To Defeat Women's Basketball 65-61

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside women's basketball team led by nine points early in the second half, but could not stop a Pepperdine rally as the Waves came from behind for the 65-61 win at the Student Recreation Center on Tuesday evening in non-conference action.
The Highlanders drop to 6-5 on the season, having lost the last three straight. Pepperdine improves to 8-5 on the season.
UCR turned a 31-31 tie at halftime into a 45-36 advantage just five minutes into the second half. However, the Waves went on a 12-3 run to tie the game at 48 with 7:16 to go. Pepperdine then took their first lead of the half, 54-53, with four minutes and change remaining.
The Highlanders retook the lead, 57-56, after two free throws by Rhaya Neabors with 2:48 to go, but the Waves scored the next basket and held on for the come-from-behind 65-61 win.
Tre'Shonti Nottingham tied her career-high with 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting and 7-of-8 from the field while Brittany Waddell added 11 points. Pepperdine's Lauren Bell led all players with 18 points.
In the first half, the Highlanders took an 8-0 lead and never relinquished their advantage for the remainder of the half. Pepperdine tied the score on three occasions, the last after a three-pointer with two seconds left in the period, as the teams entered the break tied at 31.
UCR hit 14-of-20 from the field in the first half for 70.0 percent, compared to Pepperdine's 10-of-40 for 25.0 percent. However, in the second half, UCR shot just 34.6 percent while the Waves hit 40.7 percent of their shots.
The Highlanders ended the game with 24 turnovers with Pepperdine capitalizing for 22 points off those. The Waves also came out on top with 16 second chance points compared to UCR's six.
The Highlanders open Big West Conference play hosting UC Irvine on New Year's Eve, this Friday, December 31 at 2pm PST at the Student Recreation Center.
