UC Riverside vs. BYU Game Notes (Friday, February 19)
The UC Riverside Baseball Team begins its 2010 season this Friday, February 19, with a three-game home series against BYU. First pitch Friday at the Riverside Sports Complex is slated for 3 pm PT, and Saturday's double header begins at noon. Fans who are unable to attend Saturday's double header can listen to the games on gohighlanders.com as the collective "Voices of the Highlanders" John Ramey and Ghizal Hasan bring the call to the electric interweb.

Graduations and the Major League Baseball Draft took their toll on the UC Riverside Baseball team over the summer, particularly the pitching staff, as the team team lost 45 of 53 starts from a year ago and its career saves leader.
UCR Pitchers Lost to Graduation & MLB Draft
To begin the 2010 season, the Highlanders weekend rotation will consist of sophomore Matt Andriese (5-4, 3.93), who accounted for the other eight UCR starts from a year ago; junior Dustin Emmons (1-3, 2.80), who earned a Second Team All-Conference nod out of the bullpen in 2009; and junior Matt Larkins (4-2, 4.86), who won six games for UCR as a freshman starter but worked out of the pen a year ago. Sophomore Eddie Orozco (0-0, 9.00) and freshman Trevor Frank will get the midweeks start in the early going.
The starting position players remain mostly intact as UCR looks to replace the production of center fielder Carl Uhl who graduated in 2009. Tony Nix will shift from left to center in 2010, and last year's designated hitter, Michael Hur, will take over left field. The DH spot will be held down initially by two players—Justin Shults and Mike Nesbitt.
