Box Score - UC Riverside 8, North Texas 5
San Antonio, TX - After dropping Saturday morning's game to UTSA 6-0, the UC Riverside softball team's bats came alive in game two as they came away with an 8-5 victory over North Texas at Roadrunner Field.
Tied at five heading into the seventh inning, Ariel Shore and Kameryn Hebenton singled to start off the seventh and were later brought home by Taylor Thomas' three-RBI walk off home run to left field, propelling UCR to an 8-5 win.
It was Thomas' first home run of the year and the second for the Highlanders that game as Jessica Vasser also hit a three-RBI home run in the third inning.
In the early going, North Texas put a solo run on the board in the top of the first inning and plated three in the next inning to take a 4-0.
The Highlanders countered with the opposite as they scored three runs in the bottom of the second and one in the third and fourth innings to take a 5-4 lead.
In the third inning, Jessica Vasser's three-RBI home run closed the margin to 4-3, and a double by Marissa Alvidrez the next inning plated Shore from second for the 4-4 tie. In the fifth, Alexis VIllamor's single to right field scored Alexis Pickett for UCR's first lead of the game, 5-4.
The Highlanders lead was short lived, however, as the Mean Green scored once again in the top of the sixth for the second tie of the ballgame, 5-5, before Thomas' heroics in the bottom of the seventh.
Thomas and Vasser led UCR with three RBI while Shore had two runs and two hits and Pickett added two runs.
Alvidrez (4-3) earned the win for the Highlanders, pitching all seven innings and allowing five runs on six hits.
UC Riverside concludes the UTSA Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 28 with a game against North Texas at 8:00 am.
