UCR Women's Hoops Erases First Half Deficit In 72-50 Win Over UC Davis

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside women's basketball team erased a 10-point first half deficit and had three players in doubles figures on Thursday evening against UC Davis in Big West action as they took home the 72-50 victory at the Student Rec Center.
The Highlanders improve to 11-8 overall and 4-2 in league play while the Aggies fall to 14-5, 4-3.
UC Riverside was down by 10 early in the first half, but used an 18-7 run to end the first half and begin the second period, going up by as many as 23 towards the end of the game.
The Highlanders outscored the Aggies 49-27 in the second period, while outshooting them 61.5 percent to 43.5 percent.
Tre'Shonti Nottingham led all players with 22 points and six steals, while Brittany Waddell added 14 points (all in the second half), and Rhaya Neabors had 13.
UC Davis scored nine of the first 11 points to begin the game before the Highlanders rallied for five straight to make it a two-point contest, 9-7, at the 14:06 mark. The Aggies then went on a 8-0 run over the next four minutes taking a 17-7 advantage.
UC Riverside countered with a 14-2 run including two back-to-back three pointers from Neabors that put the Highlanders up 21-18 with 1:56 left. The teams entered the break tied at 23, with neither squad shooting better than 30.0 percent from the field.
UC Riverside opened the second half continuing on its run from the first half, outscoring the Aggies 13-2 taking a 36-25 lead with 15:15 remaining. The Highlanders pushed their lead out to 13, 56-43, on a Nottingham three-pointer with 6:18 left, but UCD scored five straight to cut the lead back to single-digits, 56-48, with just under five minutes remaining.
The Highlanders held UC Davis to just two points the rest of the game, however, closing on a 16-2 run for the 72-50 win—the largest victory over UCD in the Division I history of the program.
The Highlanders return to action to host Pacific on Saturday, January 29 at 5:00 pm PST at the Student Recreation Center in Riverside.
