11/5/2011 3:18:00 PM | Men's Soccer
Riverside—UC Riverside and UC Davis played to a 1-1 tie Saturday evening at the UCR Soccer Stadium, and the Big West Conference Tournament seeds are now set. With the draw, the Highlanders net the four seed and must travel to No. 1 UC Irvine for a Wednesday, November 9 semifinal match beginning at 7 pm PT. The winner advances to the Big West Championship Game on Saturday, November 12, where they will face off against the winner of the other Wednesday evening match up between No. 3 UC Davis at No. 2 UC Santa Barbara. UC Riverside and UC Davis were scoreless through the first period, but John Joslin put the Aggies up 1-0 when he and Matt Wiesenfarth teamed up for a give and go on the right side for his second goal of the season.
An Aggies win would have jumped them into first place in the Big West, but the Highlanders had other ideas as Hayden Leslie emerged from a scrum in front of the UC Davis goal in the 87th minute of play to tie the game at one apiece.
The teams combined for 15 shots in the two overtime periods, but neither squad could dent the back of the net, and they had to settle for the 1-1 tie.
