Men's Basketball Finishes Finals, Heads To Montana State Sunday

Bozeman, MT—The UC Riverside Men’s Basketball Team is wrapping up final exams, and gets back on the hardwood this Sunday, December 11 for a 12 pm PT tip at Montana State.
The Highlanders are coming off of a 56-35 loss to USC before the second largest home crowd in the history of the program. Phil Martin continues to lead the UCR offensive attack having led the Highlanders in scoring in five of seven games this season and averaging 14.1 points per game. He is also UC Riverside’s leading rebounder grabbing 5.7 boards per game.
Defensively, the Highlanders are holding opponents to 39.0 percent shooting from the field including 30.8 percent from three-point range.
Montana State enters the week with a 5-3 record having won three straight games—a streak which includes a 71-67 victory over CSU Bakersfield.
Montana State has four players averaging double figures in scoring—Xavier Blount (12.1), Christian Moon (10.9), Rod Singleton (10.5 ppg), and Jamie Stewart (10.4). The Bobcats connect on 45.3 percent of their field goal attempts and 35.9 percent of their three-pointers on the year, and have committed 22 fewer turnovers than the opposition.
UC Riverside and Montana State have squared off against one another on two prior occasions. The Bobcats took the first meeting on December 1, 2001 by an 82-72 score, while the Highlanders picked up the win, 78-67, last season on December 19, 2010. Kareem Nitoto and Javon Borum combined for 36 points and 11 assists in the victory. They also went 8 of 10 from three-point range as UC Riverside made 11 of 19 from long distance.
