Riverside—Anheuser-Busch has teamed up with the UC Riverside Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and chosen men's soccer forward Cesar Diaz Pizarro as the December recipient of the "Budweiser Responsibility Matters Good Sport of the Month." Please visit the Budweiser Responsibility Matters web page to view past recipients.
Diaz Pizarro was named Big West Conference Co-Offensive Player of the year and to the All-Big West First-Team after earning a spot on the Honorable Mention squad a year ago. The senior led the Highlanders with nine goals and three assists for 21 points during the 2011 season as UC Riverside finished the year with a 9-6-4 mark setting a program record for wins in the process.
The team advanced to the Big West Conference Tournament for the first time in program history before losing 2-0 to UC Irvine in the semifinals. Despite an RPI of 34 heading into the conference tournament, UC Riverside was unable to secure an at-large bid in the 48-team NCAA Tournament field.
Diaz Pizarro ended the year ranked tied for first in the conference in game-winning goals, second in goals, and fourth in points.
Anheuser-Busch congratulates Diaz Pizarro for demonstrating that RESPONSIBILITY REALLY DOES MATTER!
