Box Score - Boise State 13, UC Riverside 11
Riverside, CA - A furious seven-run rally in the seventh inning fell just short for the UC Riverside softball team in a 13-11 loss to Boise State in game one of the Amy S. Harrison Classic on Friday afternoon.
Down 13-4 to start the bottom of the seventh inning, UCR (3-9) batted around the order as they scored seven runs on four hits and one error.
Brittany Keeney led off with a hit by pitch, and Kameryn Hebenton singled and advanced on a error by the Broncos third baseman.
Taylor Thomas then lined a single into right field, scoring the first run of the inning. Two straight walks brought home another runner, and Amy Lwin's single up the middle plated a third.
Boise State (3-8) brought in a new pitcher to face the next batter, but Kayla White continued the Highlanders offensive onslaught with a grand slam to cut the lead to 13-11.
After Ariel Shore struck out to record the first out of the inning, Alexis Pickett was injured during her at-bat, and UCR's offense could not pick up where it left off as two more strike outs ended the inning and the game.
The Highlanders took an early 2-0 lead after the first inning, but the Broncos got one run back in the second and took a 4-2 lead after scoring three runs in the third.
Boise State plated another solo run in the fourth, but UCR closed the margin to 5-4 after Keeney's 2-RBI double in the bottom of that inning.
The Broncos added two insurance runs in the sixth and exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh inning to go up 13-4 before the Highlanders made their furious rally to conclude the game.
Jordyn McDonald was issued the loss for the Highlanders while Allie Crump picked up the win for Boise State.
The Amy S. Harrison Classic continues on Saturday with three games starting at 9:00 am. Due to upcoming inclement weather, check gohighlanders.com early in the morning for all the latest on delays or cancellations.
