Softball Concludes Amy Harrison Classic With 10-2 Loss To UNLV

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside softball team concluded play at the rain-shortened Amy S. Harrison Classic on Sunday afternoon with a 10-2 loss to UNLV.
The Highlanders fall to 3-10 on the season, having loss their last six straight. UNLV improves to 7-6 overall.
After retiring the batters in order in the first, UCR pitcher Casey Suda gave up two runs in the second and a single run in the third as UNLV opened a 3-0 lead. After a scoreless fourth for both teams, the Rebels put four more runs on the board in the fifth inning.
UCR's Jessica Vasser stopped UNLV's Jessica O'Connor's bid for a no-hitter as she led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a double.
A Nicole Carter single moved Vasser to third, and Coco Villamor's sac fly to right field made it 7-1. Kayla White's double in the next at bat scored another run and cut UNLV's lead down to five.
The Rebels threatened in the top of the sixth as three straight singles loaded the bases, but Jordyn McDonald, pitching in relief of Suda, got the next three out to end the inning.
In the bottom of the frame, UCR had runners at first and second with two outs but could not convert to bring a run home.
A solo home run by UNLV's Heather Harrison started a three-run two out rally in the seventh that put the Rebels up 10-2, and the Highlanders went in order in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.
UNLV's O'Connor earned her first win of the season, while Suda was saddled with the loss for UC Riverside.
The Highlanders return to action at the Wildcat Invitational beginning Friday, March 4 in Tucson, AZ.
