Box Score - UC Riverside 72, Pacific 56
Stockton, CA - The UC Riverside women's basketball team clinched home court in the first round of the 2011 ampm Big West Basketball Tournament with its 72-56 road victory at Pacific on Saturday.
With UC Irvine's loss at UC Davis earlier in the day, the Highlanders (16-11, 9-5) clinched a home court berth on Tuesday, March 8 in the first round of the tournament. The winner of that game will move on to the Honda Center in Anaheim for the semifinals on Friday, March 11, with the finals slated for Saturday, March 12 at 1:00 pm.
Brittany Waddell scored a game-high 26 points on 9 of 15 shooting including 4-6 from beyond the arc. Tre'Shonti Nottingham added 17 points as the Highlanders outshot the Tigers 47.1 percent to 33.3 percent.
In the first half, Pacific (7-21, 4-11) took an early 6-0 lead and led by seven points on two different occasions, the last at 11-4 with 4:59 gone by.
A Waddell three-pointer at the 7:30 mark gave the Highlanders their first lead of the game, 18-17, and they never looked back closing the period on an 11-0 run to take a 37-26 advantage at the break.
UC Riverside pushed its lead out to 19 points on a Jazzmin Lewis layup with 11:26 left in the second half, but the Tigers scored seven straight to cut the lead to 12, 52-40, with 9:06 remaining.
However, 12 points was as close as UOP would get the rest of the way as Alyssa Morris' two free throws at the 4:28 mark pushed UCR's lead out to 21 points.
The Highlanders win was their third-straight—tying a season best set at two different junctures earlier in the year.
