Men's Tennis Wins Doubles Point But Falls 5-2 To Missouri-Kansas City

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside men's tennis team won the doubles point but could not convert in singles matches, falling 5-2 to visiting Missouri-Kansas City on Saturday afternoon at the SRC Tennis Courts.
UCR's duo of Mike Conroy and Quoc Doan won their match at No. 1 doubles 9-7, and Austin Andres and Raineir Matias won 9-8 at No. 3 to secure the doubles point for the Highlanders.
In singles matches, however, Kevin Griffin was the lone Highlanders player to win a match, defeating Cameron Schoenhofer of UMKC 6-2, 7-5 at No. 6.
The Highlanders had opportunites in the other singles matches, such as at No. 1 where Felix Macherez won the first set 5-7 but fell 6-1, 6-1. Doan, Andres, and Ryan Stanbury all lost their respective first sets 7-6, and just could not recover in the second set as UMKC took home the victory.
"It was a very competitive match," Head Coach York Strother stated. "We just came up a little short."
The Highlanders return to the courts on Sunday, February 6 in a neutral match against UC San Diego at 12:00 pm in Murrieta, CA.
