Waddell Reaches 1,000 Career Points As Highlanders Win 74-60 Over Titans

Riverside, CA - Brittany Waddell scored a season-high 24 points and became just the 13th player in UCR history to score 1,000 points, leading the UC Riverside women's basketball team to a 74-60 win against Cal State Fullerton on Saturday evening at the Student Recreation Center.
The Highlanders improve to 13-9 overall and 6-3 in Big West action, while the Titans drop to 8-16, 4-7.
Waddell needed just 11 points to reach the 1,000 point plateau, and did so on a layup at the 16:13 mark in the second half. The senior scored 16 points in the second period alone, and hit 6-12 from the field for the game, including a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line.
Alyssa Morris was just shy of a double-double as she scored 19 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Megan Richardson had 17 points to lead Fullerton.
The Highlanders and Titans played a back-and-forth ball game in the first half, with neither team leading by more than four points. UCR took a 26-25 advantage into the break.
UC Riverside finally got momentum in the second half, turning a one-point game into a 10-point advantage with 13:33 remaining. UCR pushed its lead out to 17, 60-43, on a Waddell layup, and the Titans never got closer than eight the rest of the game.
The Highlanders improved their shooting in the second period hitting 56 percent of their shots while limiting the Titans to just 36 percent. UCR also outrebounded CSF 42-28, while scoring 32 points in the paint compared to just 12.
UC Riverside has a week off before continuing Big West Conference play on the road at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, February 12 at 2:00 pm.
