Box Score - UC Riverside 4, Utah State 1
Tucson, AZ - Jordyn McDonald pitched a complete game striking out five while allowing just one run as the UC Riverside softball team (4-12) defeated Utah State 4-1 on Saturday morning in game three of the Wildcat Invitational.
After getting out of a bases loaded jam in the first inning, McDonald settled down and allowed just four more base runners through the sixth inning.
The Highlanders offense gave McDonald support as they opened the second frame with a run. Alexis Pickett walked and Coco Villamor made the Aggies (3-10) pay for that as she smashed a triple down the left field line to score Pickett.
In the third, UCR added two more runs to go up 3-0. Ariel Shore singled to lead off the frame, and later stole second. Kameryn Hebenton got plunked by a pitch to take her base, and Brittany Keeney's double to right center scored both runners.
The Highlanders added an insurance run in the sixth inning on Kayla White's RBI single that scored Villamor from third.
McDonald's shut-out bid came to an end in the seventh inning, as Utah State strung together a single and a double to score its lone run of the game.
The Wildcat Invitational continues on Saturday with a 6:00 pm game against Portland State in Tucson, AZ.
