Women's Tennis Drops Heartbreaker 4-3 To Portland

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside women's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker 4-3 to Portland on Monday afternoon at the SRC Tennis Courts.

UCR's duo of Angelique Corpuz and Kate Bergeson won their doubles match at No. 3, 8-6, but the Highlanders lost close contests 8-6 and 8-5 at Nos. 1 and 2 respectively to drop the doubles point.

UC Riverside needed to win four singles matches to get the victory, but fell just short as they won three.

Nadia Sakhakorn defeated Stephanie Fuchs 6-0, 7-5 at No. 2 while Natalie McKay defeated Beate Valdmane 6-3, 7-6 at No. 4, and Kate Bergeson defeated Gabrielle Gorence 6-2, 4-6 (10-4) in a tiebreaker at No. 6.

The Highlanders break for finals week and return to action on Tuesday, February 22 at UC Santa Cruz at 2:00 pm.
