Box Score - Pacific 5, UC Riverside 4
Stockton, CA - Amanda Collier drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh as the Pacific Tigers defeated UC Riverside 5-4 on Saturday in Big West action at Bill Simoni Field.
The Highlanders (10-27, 3-9) were down 4-0 heading into the fourth inning, but tied the game with four runs that frame. Neither team could score after that until the seventh on Collier's single to the right side scored Kelsey Rodriguez.
UC Riverside and Pacific (30-15, 9-3) had hot bats again on Sunday, combining for 20 hits in the third game of a slugfest series.
After dropping the doubleheader to the Tigers on Friday, the Highlanders were looking to come away with one win in the series.
In the top of the first, Kayla White doubled to lead off the frame, and advanced to third on Ariel Shore's single to centerfield. Shore was then called out as she attempted to steal second, and two consecutive outs by the next two batters stranded White at third to end the inning.
Pacific took advantage of a Highlanders error in the bottom of the first as they went up 1-0. Megan Hom reached first safely on the third baseman's error, and eventually came around to score on Nicole Matson's single up the middle.
With the bases loaded for the Tigers in the next inning, back-to-back singles by Hom and Megan Foglesong made it a 3-0 game. PAC added another run in the third, but UC Riverside rallied for four runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game.
Kameryn Hebenton led off the frame with a single and advanced to second after Brittany Keeney was hit by a pitch, then advanced to third on Jessica Vasser's fly out to centerfield. Brooke Hebenton then laced a single to right field that scored her sister making it a 4-1 advantage.
With two outs, Alexis Pickett belted a shot over the right field fence tying the game a four.
In the sixth inning, the Highlanders had a runner at third base but could not convert on the opportunity.
It looked as if the game would go into extras, as UCR pitcher Jordyn McDonald got the first two outs of the seventh inning quickly.
However, the Tigers went on a two-out rally as Rodriguez singled to right field and stole second. After Alexa Rivera walked, Collier got the call to pinch-hit and came through for Pacific as she singled to right field for the game-winner.
McDonald took the loss for UCR, while Tori Shepard earned the win.
Offensively, three different members of the Highlanders recorded two hits apiece, led by Pickett's 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run.
The Highlanders return to Amy S. Harrison Field in Riverside to host UC Davis in another Big West series beginning on Saturday, April 30 at 12:00 pm.
