UCR Wins Doubles Point But Falls 5-2 To Portland In Non-Conference Match

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside men's tennis team won the doubles point and had a victory in singles action, but could not prevail falling 5-2 to Portland on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup.
Michael Conroy and Quoc Doan won at No. 1 doubles for the Highlanders, defeating Portland's Hernandez and Ferrero 8-5. Ryan Stanbury and Kevin Griffin defeated Gill and Wales at No. 3 doubles 8-5. UCR almost swept the doubles point but Austin Andres and Felix Macherez lost a tight 8-6 battle at No. 2.
In singles play, Macherez won his match at No. 2 singles 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, and although two other UCR matches were close, the Highlanders did not get enough points for the win.
Doan lost his first set 7-5 to Ferrero at No. 1, but dropped the second set 6-3. At No. 4, Andres won the first set 4-6, but lost identical 6-4 decisions in sets two and three.
UC Riverside now plays a makeup match against Loyola Marymount on Sunday, April 10 at 2:00 pm in Riverside.
