Orozco, Frank Combine For Six-Hit, 3-0 Shutout At UC Davis

Davis, CA —Eddie Orozco and Trevor Frank combined on a six-hitter Saturday afternoon as the Highlanders upended UC Davis, 3-0, to even their three-game Big West Conference series at one game apiece.

Orozco got the start for UCR (28-23, 10-13) but struggled in the early going as seven Aggies reached base over the first three innings of play. He stranded all seven base runners, however, and retired the side in order in the fourth, fifth and sixth frames.

The Highlanders finally dented the scoreboard in the top of the fifth when Bart Steponovich doubled to left center to open the inning, moved to third in a Phil Holinsworth sac bunt and came home on Trevor Hairgrove's sacrifice fly.

Tony Nix made it a 2-0 game in the top of the sixth when he ripped a one-out pitch over the left center field wall, and Hairgrove completed the scoring the following inning with a solo shot of his own to left.

Orozco's (5-2) night ended after the seventh inning with the junior having allowed just four hits and three walks while striking out seven batters. Frank took over to start the eighth and gave up just two hits in his two innings of work to nail down his first save of the season.

Anthony Kupbens (5-8) took the loss for the Aggies allowing four hits, four walks and two earned runs in 5.2 innings of work.
