Men's Soccer Tops Sacramento State, 3-0, In Home Opener

Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team opened its 2011 home season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Sacramento State Thursday evening, evening its record at 1-1-0 on the year. (Box Score)
Aaron Long put the Highlanders on the board in the 27th minute of play scoring on a follow up to his own shot from 7 yards out. It was the third goal of his career and first of the season for the Oak Hills, CA sophomore.
With 30 minutes to go in the second period, Ivan Garcia put UC Riverside up 2-0 with the first goal of his career. Cesar Diaz Pizarro re-directed a Jose Diaz pass to the Corona, CA sophomore on the left side of the box, and Garcia scored from 18 yards out.
Hayden Leslie ended the scoring for the night when he grabbed the rebound of a Ben Sperber shot poking it past Hornets keeper Cesar Castillo.
The Highlanders have the week off before traveling to Los Angeles on Friday, September 9 for a 7 pm meeting with Loyola Marymount.
