UCR Men's Tennis Falls Short In 5-2 Loss To Northern Arizona

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside men's tennis team hosted Northern Arizona on Sunday afternoon, but fell by a score of 5-2 to the Lumberjacks at the SRC Tennis Courts.
UCR's duo of Felix Macherez and Austin Andres took home a victory for the Highlanders at No. 1 doubles, winning 8-3 over Robin Pezzutto and Shaun Waters. However, NAU earned wins at Nos. 2 and 3 to secure the coveted doubles point.
The Lumberjacks quickly went up 3-0 in the match with wins at No. 4 and 6 singles, but UC Riverside rallied to split the first two sets in each of the remaining four matches.
After falling 6-2 in the first set, UCR's Jimmy Roberts won his second set 6-3 at the number two position, and completed the comeback with a 7-5 victory in the third set to make it a 3-1 match.
Simon Peters battled back at No. 5 with a 6-3 win in the second set after falling 6-0 in the first. However, NAU's Robert Martin got the best of Peters in set three, winning 6-2 to clinch the winning point for the Lumberjacks.
Macherez also scrambled back from a first-set loss, 6-3, to win the second set 6-1 before ultimately topping Robin Pezzutto 6-4 in the third set for the victory.
UC Riverside next hits the courts on Friday, February 3 for a 2:00 pm match at UNLV in Las Vegas, NV.
