Men's Tennis Drops 6-1 Decision To #59 New Mexico State

Las Vegas, NV - The UC Riverside Men's Tennis team played its second nationally ranked opponent in as many days, falling 6-1 to #59 New Mexico State on Saturday morning.

The Aggies won the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3, but UCR's Kevin Griffin and Jimmy Roberts took the No. 2 doubles match 9-7 against Marc Westgate and Felipe Frattini.

In singles action, Felix Macherez earned the lone point for the Highlanders at No. 1, coming from behind to defeat Matej Stakne 2-6, 7-6 (10-8). Unfortunately for UCR, New Mexico State won each of the remaining five matches to secure the victory.

"We competed today," Head Coach York Strother stated. "We fought all the way."

The Highlanders next return to action hosting Vanguard at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 10 at the SRC Tennis Courts in Riverside.
