Northridge, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team took #21 Cal State Northridge into double overtime on Saturday evening, but Rene Angulano was the eventual recipient of a Yuval Barak corner kick with 6:27 to go in the second extra stanza, and the Matadors walked away with the 2-1 win.
The teams played to a scoreless tie through the first 45 minutes, with CSUN outshooting UC Riverside 9-4 in the period. In the 48th minute the Matador's Chris Smith curled one in off a set piece to put Cal State Northridge up 1-0.
The Highlanders tied the match with 22:40 to go in regulation following a yellow card in the UCR box to the Matadors' Mynor Giron. Julio Reyes connected on the subsequent penalty kick to knot the score at one.
Both team's took a single shot in the first overtime, and it was Angulano's scored in the second overtime frame that sent the Matadors home happy.
