UCR Volleyball Swept By UC Davis In Big West Conference Action

Riverside—The UC Riverside Volleyball Team continued Big West Conference play Saturday evening with a 3-0 loss to UC Davis at the SRC Arena by the scores of 25-13, 25-15, and 25-16.
Amanda Vialpando led the Highlanders (5-19, 0-11) with 15 kills while Ashley Cox added nine. Allison Whitson and Devon Damelio had 11 kills to lead the Aggies (12-12, 6-5).
The Highlanders jumped out to a 3-0 lead in set one thanks to kills from Cox and Vialpando, and a Cox service ace. With the blue and gold up 5-3, the Aggies mounted a 6-0 run opening a 9-5 advantage. Two straight UCR points cut the lead to two, 9-7, but UC Davis scored 12 of the next 15 points to increase its lead to 21-10. The teams then traded points with the Aggies earning the 25-13 victory.
The second set opened with the opposite of set one, as UCD took the early 3-0 lead. The Highlanders struggled offensively throughout the set, committing nine errors and never getting closer than two. The Aggies went up 2-0 in the match with a 25-15 win.
The third set saw seven ties scores and three lead changes early in the frame. With the Highlanders up 8-7, UC Davis went on a 5-0 run to go up 12-8. UCR got two of those points back, but the Aggies opened a 19-12 lead and never looked back en route to a 25-16 win.
Next up for UC Riverside is a non-conference match against CSU Bakersfield on Friday, November 2 at 7 pm at the SRC Arena in Riverside.
