Women's Basketball Improves To 3-1 With 75-63 Win At CSU Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA—Tre'Shonti Nottingham scored 29 points for the third-straight game as the UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team withstood a second-half CSU Bakersfield rally, holding on for the 75-63 victory at the Icardo Center Sunday afternoon.
The Highlanders improve to 3-1 on the year, the best start since the 2010-11 squad also started the year with a 3-1 record.
Nottingham recorded her third straight game of 29 points, the first member of the Highlanders to score 20+ in back-to-back-to-back games since Kemie Nkele did so during the 2008-09 season. Nottingham hit 15-of-15 from the free throw line, setting a new UC Riverside single-game record for most made free throws. She also became the 14th member of the Highlanders 1,000 point club, totaling 1,001 points in her career.
CSUB scored the first three points of the game, but the Highlanders scored the next eight straight to take an 8-3 lead. The teams traded points until UC Riverside turned a 13-13 tie into a 22-13 advantage. Jamila Williams started the rally with a putback, while Taylor Wallace hit two jumpers, and Tahvia Morrison drained one from beyond the arc.
The Runners countered with an 8-0 spurt of their own, closing the gap to 22-21 at the 8:41 mark. Four points from Natasha Hadley started an 8-0 run for the Highlanders, as the lead went back up to 30-22 with just under six minutes remaining in the half.
CSU Bakersfield closed to four on two more occasions throughout the period, the last at 34-30, but UCR scored the final five points of the half to enter the break up 39-30. Nottingham had 18 points to lead both teams, while Hadley added eight.
UC Riverside emerged from the break scoring 11 of the first 15 points to take a 50-34 lead at the 14:17 mark. The Highlanders struggled offensively over the next 10 minutes, as the Runners cut the lead to just two possessions, 58-53, with 5:20 remaining.
Six points from Brittany Crain over the next minute put UCR back up by double-figures, 64-54, and a three-pointer from Nottingham at the 2:33 mark entended the lead to 67-64. CSUB scored the next five straight as the lead again dipped to eight, 67-59, but the teams traded buckets as the lead never again fell below eight as the Highlanders secured the 75-63 victory.
It was a tale of two halfs offensively for UCR, hitting 43.8 percent from the field in the first period, but 32.4 percent in the second. The Roadrunners hit 32.9 percent for the game.
Behind Nottingham's 29 points, Crain added 15 while Hadley finished with 12, and Kiara Harewood grabbed 11 boards. Brooklynn Hinkens led CSUB with 12 points.
Next up for UC Riverside is a November 23 meeting against Princeton beginning at 7 pm PT at the SRC Arena in Riverside.
