11/3/2012 6:00:00 PM | Men's Soccer
Fullerton, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team needed a win Saturday night at Cal State Fullerton to secure the final postseason berth in the Big West Conference's South Division, but it was the Titans who came away with a 2-1 win earning the right to travel to UC Davis Wednesday for a semifinal match up with the Aggies (Box Score).
Gerson Blanco put Fullerton (8-11-1, 4-5-1) up 1-0 with just 6:13 gone in the match as he grabbed Ian Ramos's blocked shot and chipped the ball into the back of the Highlanders' net.
It remained a 1-0 Titans lead untl the 73rd minute of play when Jesse Escalante coralled a Blanco header and beat UCR keeper Ashkan Khosravi to give Fullerton a two goal lead.
The Highlanders (10-8-0, 3-7-0) pressed forward, and finally got on the board with 9:50 to go courtesy of Aaron Long's sixth goal of the season. But that was all the scoring UCR could muster as the Highlanders season came to a close.
