Men's Basketball Bounces Back With 91-62 Victory Over Visiting Whittier College

Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team bounced back from Saturday's loss to USC with a 91-62 victory over visiting Whittier College Tuesday evening (Box Score).
Davin Guinn led five Highlanders (3-8) in double figures with a career-high 16 points to go along with 11 rebounds for the first double-double of his UCR career. Josh Fox, Chris Harriel and Steven Jones each chipped in with 14 points while Chris Patton added 12.
Fox scored on UC Riverside's first possession, and the Highlanders never looked back scoring 15 of the game's first 18 points. A 12-0 run midway through the first period turned a 10-point UCR lead into a 22-point advantage at 30-8 with 7:41 to go, and by the time the buzzer sounded ending the half, it was 53-19 Highlanders.
Jones scored 11 of his points in the first 20 minutes of play, while Guinn and Fox poured in 10 points each in the first. UC Riverside made 50-percent of its shots from the field and out-rebounded the Poets (5-5) 33-10.
The Highlanders led by as many as 40 in the second half, and Whittier never got closer than 28 the rest of the way.
Phillip Thomas paced the Poets with 19 points while Chris Barnes-Williams and Jacob Porter added 11 points each.
The Highlanders remain at home this weekend as they host Air Force on Saturday at 1 pm PT. It is Military Appreciation Day, Saturday, and the athletics department will honor Wounded Warrior Steven Roque during halftime ceremonies.
