Riverside—UC Riverside Head Women’s Volleyball Coach Ron Larsen announced today that he is resigning as the team’s head coach to pursue other opportunities.
“It has been a privilege over the past four years to work with these exceptional young ladies who have brought so much into my life,” said Larsen, “and I wish them all the best with their future endeavors.
“I know that I’m leaving the program in good hands with (assistant coaches) Brianna Koche and Mike Terrill, and I’m hopeful that they will be able to finish the job that we started.”
“I’d like to thank Coach Larsen for his leadership over the past four years, and for the progress he made in raising the level of our volleyball program,” said UC Riverside Athletics Director Brian Wickstrom. “We will begin a search for a new head coach immediately, and Coach Koche and Coach Terrill will manage the program throughout that process.”
Larsen joined in 2009 after serving as an assistant coach with the USA Men’s National Volleyball Team that brought home the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing, China, Olympic Games.
Prior to his time with USA Volleyball, Larsen was the head men’s volleyball coach at UC San Diego for six seasons, and the head men’s and women’s volleyball coach at Rutgers-Newark for seven years.
Larsen got his start in coaching as the head men’s club coach at Cal before serving as an assistant to the women’s teams at St. Mary’s and UC Davis, and the head men’s volleyball club coach with the Aggies.
