Men's Basketball Looks To End Three-Game Slide Thursday vs. Pacific

Riverside—The UC Riverside Men’s Basketball Team has hit a bit of a rough patch in conference play of late as the Highlanders have dropped three straight games since running off a program-best four-game Big West winning streak. They try to move back over the .500 mark in conference play this Thursday with an 8 pm tilt at the Student Rec Center vs. Pacific.
During UCR’s current losing streak, the opposition has taken 72 free throws compared to just 23 for the Highlanders.
Phil Martin has managed to maintain his lofty scoring clip as he is averaging a Big West-best 22.5 points in conference games. His next closest competitor averages just 17.5 points.
After opening Big West competition with three straight losses, Pacific has split its last six games defeating Cal State Northridge, UC Davis and Cal Poly. They also nearly upended UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, but fell 56-53 at home.
The Tigers continue to feature one of the most balances scoring attacks in the conference, as Lorenzo McCloud paces the squad with 10.5 points per game followed by Travis Fulton and Ross Rivera at 9.7 apiece. Nobody on the Pacific roster is averaging more than 28 minutes per game, but the team’s top seven scorers all play at least 17 minutes per contest.
The Highlanders are just 4-17 all-time against Pacific, but the teams have split their last six meetings which includes a 64-57 victory on January 7, 2012 at the Alex G. Spanos Center. Martin scored 29 points in the win while Kareem Nitoto added 14.
