Box Score - Sacramento State 9, UC Riverside 4
Fresno, CA—The UC Riverside Softball Team concluded play at the Fresno State Tournament on Sunday afternoon with a 9-4 loss to Sacramento State.
The Hornets (4-1) put a single run on the board in the top of the first inning, and took a 6-0 lead after five runs in the third.
The Highlanders (1-4) responded with two runs on two hits in the bottom of the third inning to make it 6-2. With the bases loaded, Dionne Anderson singled up the middle scoring Alexis Pickett from second base and Kayla White from third.
Sac State kept adding runs to the board, however, plating three more in the fourth to go up 9-2. UCR kept battling back, and White's 2-RBI home run in the bottom of that frame closed the gap to 9-4.
UC Riverside had opportunities in the fifth inning to do more damage, but could not capitalize on a bases-loaded, no-out situation.
The Highlanders recorded a single hit in each of the next two innings, but could not advance the runner past second base as the game ended with the Hornets earning the victory.
Amy Lwin took the loss for UCR, pitching three innings and allowing seven hits and six runs, although only one earned. Shelby Voelz earned the win for Sacramento State in 3.1 innings of work.
The Highlanders now prepare for the UNLV Louisville Slugger Desert Classic beginning on Friday, February 17 in Las Vegas, NV.
