Men's Tennis Wins Top Flight In Singles But Falls 4-3 To UCSD

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside men's tennis team looked to extend its season-best three-match winning on Thursday afternoon against UC San Diego, but fell in heart-breaking 4-3 fashion at the SRC Tennis Courts.

The Tritons took the doubles point, but the Highlanders responded by winning singles matches at Nos. 1, 2 and 3.

Felix Macherez defeated Chapman Chan 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1, while Jimmy Roberts defeated Junya Yoshida 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2, and Austin Andres defeated Austin West 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3.

UCR needed just one additional singles win to secure the match, but the Highlanders dropped matches at the bottom three--all in three sets--as UC San Diego held on for the 4-3 victory.

The Highlanders now hit the road to play Loyola Marymount on February 25 in Los Angeles, CA.
