Riverside, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team returned to action on Thursday afternoon, dropping a 6-1 contest to Gonzaga at the SRC Tennis Courts.
The Highlanders duo of Austin Andres and Felix Macherez made a furious rally and came back to win their doubles match at No. 1, 9-7, over the Zags Nazal and Jamin.
UCR lost its doubles matches at Nos. 2 and 3 by identical 8-3 scores, however, as the Bulldogs took the first point of the match.
In singles play, Jimmy Roberts won his match at No. 2 over Levin Guillermo, 6-3, 6-3, but Gonzaga proved victorious in the remaining five contests to claim the victory.
Two Highlanders players went to a tiebreaker, however, as Austin Andres won his first set 6-3, but dropped a 6-4 decision in set two, and fell in the tiebreaker, 13-11, at No. 4.
Likewise, Simon Peters at No. 6 lost in the first set 6-3, but won the second set 6-3 before ultimately falling 10-3 in the tiebreaker.
The Highlanders next face Dartmouth at 12:00 on Sunday, March 18 at the SRC Tennis Courts in Riverside.
