Highlanders Men's Tennis Hangs Tough In 5-2 Loss At Pacific

Stockton, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Tennis team concluded its Norcal trip on Sunday with a 5-2 loss at Pacific.
For the second time in as many days, the Highlanders almost took the doubles point, but fell just short. UCR's duo of Simon Peters and Jimmy Roberts won their match at No. 3, 8-5, over Jainendra Grewal and Ben Mirkin.
Austin Andres and Felix Macherez were up 6-1 in their match at No. 1 doubles, but could not weather a comeback as Ivan Castro and Valentim Goncalves Jr. defeated them 9-7, giving Pacific the first point of the match as they also took the match at No. 2.
In singles, Luis Gastao remained perfect in Big West play, defeating Gonalves Jr. 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 4, while Kelly Dickson won his match at No. 6, 6-4, 6-4, over Grewal.
Roberts fell in a tiebreaker at No. 2 singles, 7-6, 2-6 (10-3), as the Tigers claimed enough points for the victory.
UC Riverside continues Big West play hosting UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, April 21 at 12:00 pm at the SRC Tennis Courts in Riverside.
