UC Irvine Baseball Two-Hits Highlanders In 2-0 Victory

Irvine, CA—UC Riverside starter Eddie Orozco (4-5) has pitched like a staff ace all season long, but the Highlanders offense hasn't been there to back him up.
Heading into this weekend, the Highlanders had scored four runs or fewer in seven of his nine starts, and two runs or fewer in five of them.
That didn't change Saturday afternoon as UC Irvine (22-17, 7-7) limited UCR (14-22, 4-7) to two hits in a 2-0 shutout victory.
As good as Orozco was, scattering eight hits, walking one and striking out eight in eight innings of work, Anteaters starter Crosby Slaught (5-4) was better. The senior right-hander allowed just one hit on a two-out single in the third to Bart Steponovich.
The Highlanders did work Slaught for three walks on the day, but only managed to move one runner into scoring position
Orozco was nearly as effective allowing just four hits through his first five innings, but in the sixth, Tommy Reyes reached on one-out double, and Jordan Fox brought him home with a single to left center.
Orozco retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh, but in the eighth, Reyes doubled off of the senior right-hander again. After an intentional walk to Fox, Connor Spencer singled up the middle to make it 2-0 'Eaters.
In the top of the ninth, Vince Gonzalez reached on a two-out single, but relief pitcher Race Pamenter got David Andriese to pop up to second end the game and pick up his fifth save of the season.
The Highlanders and Anteaters go at it again on Sunday, April 29. First pitch is slated for 1 pm PT.
