Highlanders shine in classroom once again
RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside Athletics landed department-record 106 student-athletes on the Big West Spring All-Academic Team, it was announced Tuesday by the conference office.Â
A significant boost from last year's 39 spring honorees, Women's Track & Field led the way with 28 honorees while baseball followed with 22.Â
To be eligible for Academic All-Conference honors, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative institutional GPA of 3.00 or higher, complete at least one full academic year at their Big West institution, and compete in at least 50% of the team's contests (except in track & field, which requires participation in the conference championship or at half the team's meets).
Every spring team saw over half its respective roster earn All-Academic distinction, with five teams seeing over 60% (women's golf, softball, baseball, women's track & field, and women's tennis). Of the 106 student-athletes, Lauren Lee (women's golf) and Eshaan Hussain (men's track & field) carried a 4.0 GPA. See below for the sport-by-sport breakdown.Â
