Reno, NV—The UC Riverside Men's Cross Country Team opened the 2012 season Friday afternoon with a second place finish at the three-mile Nevada Chase Race at San Rafael Park. The Highlanders totaled 40 points to place second behind UCLA with 19 points.
"It was a good start," Head Coach Irv Ray stated. "We're happy with the progress in our training, and looking forward to the rest of the season."
Cody Jordan paced the UCR squad finishing in fourth place with a time of 16:16, while Seth Totten and Benjamin Heck placed sixth and seventh respectively with identical 16:25 times.

Thirty seconds later the fifth and sixth runners from each team started, and thirty seconds later the third and fourth runners from each team started. Finally, another thirty seconds later, the first and second runners from each team started.
The Highlanders now return to Riverside to host their annual Invitational on Saturday, September 15 at the UCR Ag/Ops Course. The men's 8000m race gets underway at 8:05 am PT with the men's 8000m collegiate open slated for 9:15 am.
