Riverside, CA—College Sports Madness released its 2013 Big West Men's Soccer All-Conference Teams this afternoon, naming UC Riverside's Eric Gonzalez to the First Team, and Aaron Long to the Second Team.
Gonzalez, a midfielder, was named Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Week this week for his performance in Saturday's 3-2, come-from-behind win over Cal State Fullerton which helped the Highlanders clinch the number three seed in the Big West Conference Tournament. He tied for second on the team in assists, and now had 10 for his career.
Long, a midfielder, tied for the team lead in goals this year with three, and added an assist to finish third on the team in points. His goal against Marist on September 1 was the game-winner, and scores against CSU Bakersfield and UNLV helped secure a tie and a victory for the Highlanders respectively.
Long's lone assist of the season came in UCR's 3-2, come-from-behind victory over Cal State Fullerton allowing the Highlanders to clinch the number three seed in the Big West Conference Tournament. Last season, Long was named to the All-Big West First Team.
UC Riverside travels to UC Davis for its first-round, conference tournament match on Tuesday, November 12. Kick off is slated for 2 pm PT.
