Men's Tennis Wins Doubles Point But Falls 4-3 To UC San Diego

Riverside, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team won the doubles point Tuesday against UC San Diego and needed a split in singles to secure the victory, but fell just shy by winning two singles matches, falling by the slimmest of margins, 4-3, to the Tritons.

UCR's Kevin Griffin and Marcus Vizcarra won at number two doubles, 8-6, while Julian Ruffin and Calvin Ngo won at number three, 8-5, to give the Highlanders the first point of the match.

In singles, Luis Gastao defeated Kona Luu 7-6, 6-3 at number three, while Vizcarra won 6-4, 6-2 at #6. Unfortunately for UC Riverside, the other four matches went to the Tritons at numbers one, two, four and five, as UCSD came away with the victory.

The Highlanders now hit the road for a neutral site match against Northern Arizona at 1 pm on Saturday, February 16 in Phoenix, Arizona, followed by a Sunday contest in Tucson against the University of Arizona at 11 am.
