Softball Opens Campbell/Cartier Classic With 7-0 Loss To Top Ranked Oklahoma

San Diego, CA - The UC Riverside Softball Team opened play Friday afternoon at the Campbell/Cartier Classic with a 7-0 loss to top-ranked Oklahoma.
The Sooners (6-0) quickly took the lead with a single run in the first inning, but UCR (2-4) pitcher Alyssa Razo settled down in the second, striking out the order.
In the third, OU's Keilani Ricketts hit a two-RBI home run to left field to make it a 3-0 game. After a single to the next batter, Razo was replaced in the circle with Ashley Ercolano, who loaded the bases but got out of the jam to keep it a three-run lead.
An inning later, Oklahoma tacked on another run, and with a runner on base and two outs in the fifth, Lauren Chamberlain hit a homer for OU, making it a six run advantage.
A final run for the Sooners in the sixth completed the scoring for the No. 1 team in the nation as the Highlanders fell, 7-0.
Oklahoma pitcher Michelle Gascoigne limited UC Riverside to just two hits in the win. Razo was saddled with the loss tossing 2.1 innings of work.
Next up for the Highlanders is a 9 am game Saturday morning against Kentucky.
