Seven-Run 6th Inning By #22 Kentucky Powers Them Past Softball, 11-3

San Diego, CA - The UC Riverside Softball Team was neck and neck with #22 Kentucky through five innings until the Wildcats (8-2) put a seven-spot on the board in the sixth to win 11-3 at the Campbell/Cartier Classic.
It was UCR (2-5) that got things going offensively out of the gate, as Ariel Shore scored on a Wildcat error in the bottom of the first inning. After a scoreless second from both teams, Kentucky tacked on three runs in the top of the third taking a 3-1 advantage.
The Highlanders quickly got those runs back, as Marissa Escalante homered with Shore on first base, tying the game at 3-3 after three complete frames.
The Wildcats took the lead one inning later, scoring a single run to make it a 4-3 ballgame. After a fifth inning which saw both teams put a runner on base but leave them stranded, Kentucky's offense kicked into gear, scoring seven runs against the Highlanders to put the game out of reach.
Alyssa Razo took the loss for UCR while Kelsey Nunley earned the win for the Wildcats.
UC Riverside concludes the Campbell/Cartier Classic on Sunday with an 11:15 am game against #16 Washington, and a 1:30 contest against San Diego State.
