Razo Tosses 1-0 Shutout For Softball Against Portland State In Wildcat Invitational Opener

Tucson, AZ—Alyssa Razo tossed a complete-game, 1-0 shutout for the UC Riverside Softball Team Friday morning against Portland State in the first game of the Wildcat Invitational.
Razo struck out five while giving up four hits and two walks in the win. This is the first 1-0 shutout for the Highlanders since they defeated Cal State Northridge 1-0 on May 5, 2012.
UCR left four runners on early, and the Vikings left three on in the fourth inning alone, as both teams were locked in a scoreless tie until the Highlanders got on board in the fifth.
Brittanie Akey doubled to right centerfield to lead off the inning, and was moved to third following a sacrifice bunt by Meagan Esteban. After another out, Alexis Pickett laced an RBI single up the middle to plate Akey for the 1-0 Highlanders lead.
That score would prove to be the game-winner for UCR, who has now won four in a row.
Next up for the Highlanders is a 3 pm game against #17 Arizona on Friday afternoon in the Wildcat Invitational.
